Interpreting services

Interpreting means accurate rendering of the information possessed in one language to another desired language. We provide consecutive, simultaneous and chuchotage interpretation services. The main priorities of the interpretation services we provide are as follows: interpreters’ professionalism, expertise and thorough preparation. The interpreter’s duty is to help the client overcome not only the linguistic, but also the cultural barrier.

Consecutive interpretation

Consecutive interpretation does not require any special equipment, an interpreter simply interprets a text which has already been said, and which is usually not more than 5-minutes long. As the speaker speaks, the interpreter takes notes of the principal ideas and, if possible, makes use of slides shown on a screen. Consecutive interpretation always takes longer than simultaneous interpretation, because it needs to be allocated separate time.

Simultaneous interpretation

An interpreter works in a sound-proof booth with at least one other colleague. The speaker in the meeting room speaks into a microphone, and the interpreter hears the speaker’s words via headphones and translates the speaker’s ideas into the other language by speaking into a microphone at almost the same time. Participants in the meeting room choose the required channel and listen to the interpretation in the desired language via headphones.
This mode of interpretation means interpreting at almost the same time as the speaker speaks. The biggest advantage of simultaneous interpretation is speed. Simultaneous interpretation requires equipment adapted to interpreting: interpreters sit in a separate room or in a special booth and listen to the speaker via headphones. To ensure that the interpreters hear the speaker, the speaker must speak into a microphone. In the case of simultaneous interpretation, there are usually 2 interpreters. The interpreter who is not interpreting listens to the speaker and makes brief notes of the main facts mentioned, such as figures, terms or names, thus not only helping his/her partner but also preparing to take over the interpretation at any time.
In simultaneous interpretation, interpreting is not done word-for-word – the point is to give the principal information accurately, clearly and fluently, and so speakers must avoid reading a lot of information written down beforehand.

Chuchotage

Chuchotage (French for “whispering”) is a form of interpreting which is used where in a larger group of listeners, there are only a few people who do not understand what is being said by the speaker. The interpreter sits or stands next to these people and whispers a simultaneous interpretation to them, almost at the same time as the speaker speaks. Chuchotage is often used instead of consecutive interpretation in order to save time. Sometimes, the interpreter uses headphones so that he/she can hear the speaker as clearly as possible.
Following an analysis of the nature, environment and subject of a planned event we select interpreters with the appropriate experience.

Interpretation using the Tour Guide System

With the help of the Tour Guide System, our interpreters are also able to provide simultaneous interpretation without the use of booths. In this case participants are given headphones and microphones, while the interpreter also has the Tour Guide equipment and listeners hear the interpretation via headphones. This form of interpretation is used at events with up to 50 participants. This system is very convenient when interpretation is required in more than one location for example while walking.

Close cooperation between clients and interpreters is a guarantee of interpretation quality. 
Cooperation between clients and interpreters is as important as cooperation between clients and translators. Even though experts of a certain field may think that the subject is absolutely clear, interpreters may be less familiar with that specialised area. Therefore, we ask clients to provide beforehand, if possible, all the material they have: texts of presentations, speeches, glossaries of terminology or other available information so that the interpreter is able to prepare adequately.
